A typographic element known as a superscript is a type of text that is placed above the main text.
Since Canva does not yet have the ‘Superscript’ feature, there is currently no direct method to add the ‘Superscript’ in Canva. But don’t worry, it’s still possible by using alternate methods, which I’m covering in this article.
How to Make Superscript in Canva: 2 Easy Methods
Method 01: Using Text Adjustment
Step 1: Add Text Boxes
First, add two text boxes to the artboard by clicking the text box element from the sidebar menu or by simply pressing ‘T’ from your keyboard.
After adding the textboxes, it’s time to rename the text as per your needs. For now, I named the main text “10x” and the superscript “5”.
Step 2: Adjust the Text Size
After naming the textboxes, select the second textbox (which you’re considering superscript) and make the text size smaller by simply clicking on the minus button.
Or you can simply drag the red-highlighted circle to resize the text size.
Step 3: Text Placement
After adjusting the size of a text box, it’s time to position it.
Step 4: Grouping Both Text Boxes
Once you’re done with text placement, the last thing you need to do is group both text boxes, so it will be easier for you to move them anywhere on screen with a single selection.
All Good. Superscript is ready to use 🙂
Method 02: Using Character Map
Step 1: Open Character Map
If you’re using Windows, then simply go to the search bar and type ‘Character Map’ and open it.
For Mac, you can use the ‘Character Viewer’ app.
Step 2: Search for Superscript
After you open the ‘Character Map’ app, you need to select ‘Calibri’ font and search for ‘Superscript’.
Step 3: Select and Copy the Superscript
Next, you need to select the superscript as per your needs and copy it.
Step 4: Paste Superscript
After copying the superscript, you finally need to paste it into the textbox that you already added in method 1.
See the final result below, although this method is more easy and takes less time 🙂
When and Why Should I Use Superscript?
In English (US Language), superscript is a way of writing that places certain characters or numbers a bit higher than the rest of the text. It’s not a big deal, but it can be really important in certain situations. So, let’s have a look at when to use superscript:
1. Mathematical Notations: To indicate powers or exponents in mathematical expressions, superscript is frequently used.
2. Scientific Notations: Superscripts are used in the scientific community, especially in chemistry and physics, to represent elements, isotopes, and atomic numbers.
3. References and Footnotes: Superscript is also used in academic and research writing to indicate references, endnotes, and footnotes.
4. Trademarks and Copyright: Small symbols, like “©” or “™,” are used to indicate trademarks or copyrights and are placed in superscript to indicate legal ownership and safeguard intellectual property.
5. Chemical Formulas: In chemical formulas, superscript is used to show the state of matter.
6. Chemical Equations: To balance equations and show the stoichiometry of reactants and products, superscript is employed in chemical reactions.
7. Abbreviations and acronyms: Superscript can also be used in acronyms and abbreviations to express a particular meaning.
8. Citation in Text: When you’re writing in an academic setting, like a research paper or an article, you’ll often use superscript numbers to link to sources in the text. This is usually related to the bibliography or references section.
Overall, the use of superscripts enhances the readability and visual appeal of text, whether in academic papers, mathematical equations, or everyday writing. By incorporating these typographic elements effectively, writers and designers can convey information more efficiently and engage readers with clear and visually appealing content.

Conclusion
These two methods are very easy to implement, but to make our time more precious, the second method is a better option because you don’t need to create separate text boxes, and there is no need to worry about grouping them to make it one unit.
